Rebuilding Bonds

It's been a few months since Face's rescue, and everyone's still tensely looking over their shoulders. They've split up for the moment, hoping to better evade potential pursuers, but no one's exactly thrilled about it.

Face's memory is slowly returning, bits of it coming back like pieces of a patchwork quilt. There's still a lot missing, though,and it still hurts that it's gone. Which is why they're standing in a pawnshop on a dingy side street looking for a deal.

It's not what either of them want, really. They should get to have something special, something theirs. But they just...can't, right now, so they make do with what they've got. Just like always.

"Low blow, babe... low blow..." he laughs anyway, brushing a kiss against Murdock's scruffy jaw.

"Maybe get into one of those upscale places... I know you like your man in a tux."

"Like you whatever you're wearing."

It's the honest truth. He likes him in anything, including nothing.

(... Especially nothing, if you want to be perfectly frank about it.)

"You're terrible..." He smirks, knowing full and well Murdock knows he means 'you're perfect'. "Okay... next stop - we gotta get a place to crash for a couple days... I'm liking the vibe of Vegas - nice and invisible for us."

"You love me."

They both know that's the truth.

"Sure. Should be fun."

He remembers what happened the last time they looked for a place to stay in Vegas, but Face doesn't and he sure as hell isn't about to tell him.

"Mmmm, how long do you think it'll take to scam a penthouse?"

Their budget is decidedly less Hilton, more Motel 6 - and while it does the job, there's a lot to bed said about sleeping in style and not potential bed bugs.

"I give it say... an hour? And that's only because I look kind a Reno washout."

"You always did like a challenge."

He stands, holding his hand out to him.

"Shall we?"

"I believe we shall..."

It's easy, funny and easy, to offer Murdock his elbow as the bus pulls to the curb.

"After you, my dear?"

A car would be good, yes. Kind of a bad idea to steal one when you're looking to not get busted, but would be nice.

First things first. Eventually, as is the roundabout way of public transportation, they make their way to a relatively high-class hotel, and Face has a hell of a good time convincing the desk clerk that they're a pair of media moguls whose luggage got lost on the flight in.

"I think you beat your record," he points out as he drops backwards onto the bed. He could get used to this.

His grin only spread wider as he flopped back onto the huge bed; stretching out all limbs. "I bet I could have made it in thirty if you let me hit on the maid..."

He forced himself to sit back up, licking his lips; "I'm thinking... champagne and strawberries to celebrate my amazing skills?"

"Can't make it too easy for you. That wouldn't be any fun."

He scoots next to him, in no mood to get up at this particular moment.

"Sounds perfect."

[notjustaface]

"No such thing as too easy..." Face grins, rolling onto his side to kiss his ear. "Mmmm, how about you go find the shower and get it all warmed up while I order?"

He's not above a quickie, but when they both smell like they've had better days a date with some soap and water sounds just as good.

"Mmmmkay."

He kisses him on the nose before getting up.

"You better follow me."

Reaching out quickly, Face grabbed him by the shirt - pulling him in for a hard kiss.

"You kidding? I haven't been this ready to defile a hotel room in a long time." At least a week, maybe longer.

[notthatcrazy]

"Mmph."

He leans back against him with a heavy sigh of contentment.

"Not exactly makin' me want to leave the bed."

Shower, what shower?

Face groans in the back of his throat, following up with a comparably chaste kiss on the cheek. "Mmmm, promise I'll wash all those hard to reach places?"

That nearly innocent gleam in his eyes means exactly what you think it means.

Innocent. Riiiight.

"Deal."

He forces himself to pull away, before he really does decide to not go anywhere.

A quick call; strawberries, chocolate, champagne, beer, cheeseburgers don't ask, just take your time; and he's down to just his shorts when he opens the door, more than a little pleased to see the walk-in shower.

"Much better..." he grins, stripping down to step in. It's easy to wrap his arms around Murdock's waist from behind, hands sliding through wet chest hair. "Have I told you how much I love it when I can impress you?"

"Mmmhmm. You're gonna spoil me rotten by the time we're done here."

He's not exactly complaining.

Face kisses behind his ear, making no secret of his slowly building arousal as he scrubbed his partner's chest.

"Mmm, what can I say? I like making you happy... and me happy... and other things happy."

[notthatcrazy]

He leans back into supportive arms, letting the hot water wash over them both.

"You do a good job."

[notjustaface]

"Mmm, I think this little hiatus is good for us... a little time alone together, trying on that whole life thing..."

His hands slide low and back, working over Murdock's hips with a low purr.

[notthatcrazy]

"Mmm, definitely."

It's nice to have some time to reconnect and strengthen their relationship without having to worry about running for their lives.

Much, anyway.

"It's a good life." He squirms a little, trying to get those hands where he really wants them.

[notjustaface]

His palms slide down lower, slicing the warm water down between Murdock's thighs as he holds him even closer.

"The best life..." he whispers against his partner's ear; "...me and you, don't need anything else."

[notthatcrazy]

He hopes the others are okay where they ended up, but the thought doesn't stay long as he rubs up against his partner, sighing happily at the way their bodies fit together.

It's nice to know somethings haven't gone away.

Some things never go away, not through war, not through forgetting - Murdock is the one constant in his life and he can't imagine it any other way.

"And..." he raises his soapy, wet fingers to show off the new ring; "...maybe we should make it officially the best life."
