Rebuilding Bonds

It's been a few months since Face's rescue, and everyone's still tensely looking over their shoulders. They've split up for the moment, hoping to better evade potential pursuers, but no one's exactly thrilled about it.

Face's memory is slowly returning, bits of it coming back like pieces of a patchwork quilt. There's still a lot missing, though,and it still hurts that it's gone. Which is why they're standing in a pawnshop on a dingy side street looking for a deal.

It's not what either of them want, really. They should get to have something special, something theirs. But they just...can't, right now, so they make do with what they've got. Just like always.

"Mmm, I think this little hiatus is good for us... a little time alone together, trying on that whole life thing..."

His hands slide low and back, working over Murdock's hips with a low purr.

"Mmm, definitely."

It's nice to have some time to reconnect and strengthen their relationship without having to worry about running for their lives.

Much, anyway.

"It's a good life." He squirms a little, trying to get those hands where he really wants them.

His palms slide down lower, slicing the warm water down between Murdock's thighs as he holds him even closer.

"The best life..." he whispers against his partner's ear; "...me and you, don't need anything else."

He hopes the others are okay where they ended up, but the thought doesn't stay long as he rubs up against his partner, sighing happily at the way their bodies fit together.

It's nice to know somethings haven't gone away.

Some things never go away, not through war, not through forgetting - Murdock is the one constant in his life and he can't imagine it any other way.

"And..." he raises his soapy, wet fingers to show off the new ring; "...maybe we should make it officially the best life."

He stops, turning so he can look at him properly. There's a hint of moisture in his eyes that has nothing to do with the shower and even less to do with sadness.

"Yeah?"

Of course, that really just gives him a better grip on his ass... which is just as good.

"Would you, do me the honor?" He purrs, leaning in to brush his lips against Murdock's ear before whispering; "And marry me again?"

That may or may not have been intentional.

(It was totally intentional.)

His "Yes" is a little muffled as he presses against Face's chest, holding onto him with everything he's got.

Everyone knows that the international sign of true love and devotion is totally ass grabbing - right?

He smiles warmly, murmuring against his partner's ear; "Gonna have to say it louder than that, babe. I want the neighbors to know we're celebrating tonight."

Ass grabbing and crotch groping. Or so he's heard.

"Yes," he manages to say loud and clear, sniffling a little bit against his shoulder. "I'd marry you a hundred times if we could."

The only thing that breaks their moment is a loud knock at the door and he takes the moment to press a finger to Murdock's lips and leans back to call out; "We're in the shower, leave it by the jacuzzi!"

"Hey, no tip?" A female voice calls back over the din of the shower.

"Twenty percent, put it on my card!"

He waits until the door slams closed again and then covers Murdock's lips with his, kissing him deeply with a hollow groan.

"I love you."

He parts his lips, sliding their tongues together as his arousal grows.

"Did I hear you mention a Jacuzzi?"

[notjustaface]

"Mmmm... jacuzzi... six pulsating jets... fourteen different settings..." He grinned wide, letting his long, wet fingers stroke gently up the crease of his ass.

"I think we should get this party started."

He doesn't move quite yet though. Instead he leans forward to whisper in Face's ear.

"A couple years back, we had a case in Oregon and we camped out overnight waiting for the others. You remember that at all?"

It's kind of a weird thing to ask, but he's going somewhere with it.

It doesn't really ring any bells, for all he knows it's rolled up with the other mish mash of things he just hasn't been able to bring back. Still, it seems important enough that it's stalling Murdock in their lingering lust.

"Bet I wish I did," he answers, his fingers slowing their obvious course; "tell me?"

He's not really surprised. He'll have to show him how to make s'mores again sometime, but that's not the point right now.

"I told you I thought everyone had one perfect match in the world, and I found mine."

He wraps his arms tighter around him.

"I believe that even more now."

[notjustaface]

The admission warms him, but also tugs at that familiar fear - the sense that he's in over his head and doesn't want to hurt anyone, least of all Murdock. "Yeah?" He says softly, leaning against him as he turns off the water.

"That's... that's pretty deep."

[notthatcrazy]

"Yeah," he says, reaching for a towel.

"Pretty corny, I know.."

[notjustaface]

"Guess you probably think about that a lot though," Face takes the initiative of wrapping an absurdly fluffy towel over Murdock's shoulders; "how it just keeps coming back down to us."

His strong arms wrap around his lover once more and he half-laughs at the musical refrain that flirts through his head. "Guess I just... can't... help... falling in love... with... you." His grin lingers even after brushing a kiss on the bridge of Murdock's nose.

He chuckles softly. They are in Vegas, it makes sense to bust out the Elvis tunes.

"Yeah... guess you get to do it all over again, huh?"

He's trying to see that as a good thing.

"Not completely..." he lowers his head, licking his lips.

"You know when you told me, my first thought wasn't what I did wrong to lose my girlfriend... it was wondering what I did right to have my best friend."

Mushy as it may be, it's true. The depth may be new, but the feelings weren't exactly a surprise.

He really doesn't know what to say to that that won't involve actual tears, so he settles for another few moments of kissing and cuddling.

"C'mon. I believe there's a hot tub out there with our name on it."

[notjustaface]

It's a nice, comforting moment at least - getting the chance to simply stroke his fingers through wet snarls and enjoy the simplicity of eager kisses.

"Mmmmm, jacuzzi time..." He grins, leading Murdock over toward the rather impressive layout of cheeseburgers and strawberries and chocolate and booze. "Tell me you hit the jackpot with me, baby."

"Like winning the lottery every day, baby."

He follows him over, nodding approvingly at the spread. That's a lot of food.

Well, there's a lot to be said for being prepared. Maybe more for being over prepared.

"Have you ever eaten a burger in a hot tub? It's about the second most luxurious and pretentious thing you can do in one."
