Face had stayed awake after outlining his plan, long after the others had drifted away to catch what rest they could. Murdock knew that the responsibility was weighing heavily on him, particularly coming so soon after the reveal of Morrison's betrayal. He found him still looking over the three plastic cups, mentally going over the details of the plan.

"Who has the most to lose from this? Me," he'd pointed out to him. "And I trust you."

"Yeah, I know.. but you're crazy."

"Not that crazy."

Eventually he coaxes a genuine smile out of him, and he pulls him away from the table. "C'mon, you're not gonna do us any favors stayin' up all night."

Face follows him without too much protest, stopping short when he reaches their makeshift sleeping quarters. "What is that?"

"What, that?" Murdock grins, picking up the small stuffed hippo. "Found it with the dolls. Must've gotten mixed in with the wrong shipment."

Face just shakes his head as Murdock pulls him down to sleep, still humming his faux-operatic tune. Eventually, the soft singing changes to a more melancholy melody.

Incorrigible... Irresistible...

He easily smiles against the gentle press of lips, letting his tired body get lost for a moment before tucking the toy behind Murdock's back and embracing him.

"Mmm, he's more innocent than I thought."

"Wouldn't wanna corrupt him."

Do YOU want to be responsible for that, Face?

It wouldn't be the first innocent plush witness to their coupling...

He laughs, a tired easy sound, fitting himself against the warm press of Murdock's skin.

"Mmm, I can respect that decision."

He doesn't want to think about the trail of plush perversion they've left in their wake.

"Thanks, babe."

Face is gonna kinda miss Brownie... she was cute and had seen more horrors than any plush cow should ever see.

"I missed this," he murmurs, glad for the moment of comfort despite their less-than-ideal situation. Life has gone to hell, but at least at the end of it they have each other.

At least a little longer.

It's kinda sad.

"Yeah, me too."

Fortunately they don't have to miss it for the foreseeable future, knock on wood that everything goes the way it's supposed to.

Which really... when has it ever?

He brushes kisses across Murdock's nose and then against his lips, one hand lingering on the small of his back before sliding comfortably lower.

"You know this isn't the strangest place I've considered getting naked."

It may not go exactly as planned, but it always seems to work out more or less okay in the end.

He raises an eyebrow.

"Okay, you know I'm gonna have to ask now."

[notjustaface]

That's enough to draw a laugh and another gentle kiss.

"Mmm... you probably don't want to know. Let's just say that I can get pretty creative when I have to be."

"I probably don't," he acknowledges with a soft chuckle. "You told me about the pool table, and I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg."

"We'll make our own stories..." he murmurs, letting himself tease at his waistband again - still wary of pushing too far.

"Like this one time we were on the run and made love in the cargo hold of an extremely illegal freighter..."

He's a terrible tease. Murdock pushes towards his hand, almost reflexively.

"And who would we be telling this to?"

[notjustaface]

Which really just makes his goal of sliding down past the cloth barrier all the more simple.

"Mmm... we've got to have something to scar BA for life with. Or, you know... the generation of crazy assholes in our future."

[notthatcrazy]

He smiles against his shoulder.

"If this is your idea of sweet talk, you might need some more practice."

Though probably not too much, given how receptive he is to what Face's hands are doing.

His fingers stroke gently over the warm skin, drawing small circles and lines as he tries to remember each bump and follicle.

"If I was trying to sweet talk you I'd look you in the eyes and tell you how lucky I am that you don't give up." His voice drops to a true, humbled purr as he catches his friend's eyes; "Even when I hurt you."

He shivers, looking up into those blue eyes. If his own eyes are looking a little watery... well, he'll blame it on the dust in the air.

"That," he breathes, "is much better."

Their allergies are acting up... That's it.

There's more to it, apologies for the past and likely the future too, but that ragged breath does things to him and he pulls Murdock even closer - almost on top of him.

"Damn lucky," he murmurs, burying his free hand in dirty, soft hair to pull him into a deep kiss.

That's totally what it is. Really.


"I'd say you're worth the effort," he says after they break the kiss. "Even when you think you're not."

He fully believes that Murdock feels that way... Which makes it hurt in the best way possible. He's not used to that kind of faith.

"I'm glad you think so," his lips smile, but his eyes are cloudy. He would have given up a long time ago, but Murdock's crazy enough to hold on.

Comfortable, he slides his fingers lower and pushes up against him.

"All the people in your life, you let me get close."

He sighs, arching up as Face's hands move lower.

"Means a lot to me."

His back protests, each rock of his hips driving his back into a particularly hard lump. Worth it - even if their first time properly together isn't romantic.

It's hard to admit, but quietly he says; "You didn't leave." In the end, everyone else has turned their back.

The rhythm of their movements and the rocking of the ship are strangely relaxing, in a weird way.

"And I never will."

[notjustaface]

It's another thing he'll probably never actually believe, but hearing it makes him ache in the best possible way.

"I..." he sighs, closing his body tighter around Murdock - tugging gently at his hair; "I want you so bad, baby."

It's a horrible line, but he really means it.

Maybe he won't believe it, but Murdock is going to do his best to make him see that he's sticking around.

At one point, he would have teased him about the cheesy come-on, but now he recognizes it for what it is.

"Yes..." He strokes a hand down Face's back to rest on the curve of his hip. "Please."

He deserves the teasing, really, but can't help but be glad the tired desire is returned this time around. Not that he would have pushed it if it wasn't.

"Like you have to ask..." he grins, tilting his chin up to kiss him again. Slowly, his hand works it's way out of Murdock's hair to the buttons and zippers digging against each other, thumbing open Murdock's fly.
