The team's had a few rough cases lately, and it's finally time to lie low and let the heat die down a bit. Face had managed to scam them a small apartment (he doesn't know how, and he's decided he's okay with that) and it's the first time in months they've stayed somewhere with a cable connection.

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on the Discovery Channel...

Daring a glance over his shoulder at Murdock, he lets his smile show before turning back to the street.

"I know... it's my job to be the attractive, well-dressed one, remember?"

Which is really only his way of teasing back... a little.

Touche.

"Hello, have you seen your ass in jeans?"

That's not teasing this time, it's genuine admiration.

[notjustaface]

Fair enough.

Turning toward him again, his smile stretches; "Yeah, I have." And that's all ego talking, baby.

"See that black car? Try to catch the tags on it."

[notthatcrazy]

In this case, it's justified. Not that he'd say that to him outright.

"Shit.."

He turns his head to catch the plates on the nondescript sedan.

That was pretty much what he was expecting; "Government tags... great. Just what we needed."

With a deep frown, he pushed the walkie to radio in to Hannibal; "Boss, we've got a black sedan with government plates about two blocks down. Doesn't look good."

Face looks to Murdock as they wait for a response, offering a dim but frustrated smile.

He sighs as they wait for the reply, fingers drumming softly on the steering wheel as he continues the circuit.

This is why they can't have nice things

The problem with being fugitives is that there's no such thing as true downtime.

The radio crackles to life a moment later and a rather tense Hannibal orders; "Keep an eye on it - report movements."

"Copy that." Face replies back, tossing the radio on the dash with a sigh. "Looks like we're on the job."

"Never a dull moment," he sighs. They could use more dull moments.

"What are you thinkin'?"

[notjustaface]

He already misses their vacation.

"That being a bartender in Canada sounds like a really great idea right about now." He returns the sigh, keeping his eyes on the sedan.

"Can't argue with ya there."

He keeps his hands steady on the wheel, not making any sudden moves that would give them away.

[notjustaface]

"Back into that alley you just passed, I can still see it from there."

It's work, it's dull and frequently meaningless work - but it's work.

"Got it."

He's thinking of Montreal himself now. Hanging around at the bar while Face worked... those were good times.

[notjustaface]

Settling back in his seat, they can both get a perfect view of the car - and its single occupant. For the moment, at least, they can relax.

"Hell, I miss being back on the couch already."

[notthatcrazy]

"Talk about blood in the water, huh?"

He leans back in his seat.

"Today started out so well..."

[notjustaface]

"Does that make us sharks?" Face's brow furrows a short moment and he slides a little closer across the bench seat.

It at least didn't start out with having to tail a government vehicle.

[notthatcrazy]

"Better to be the shark than the little fish."

Not having to actively evade the authorities is definitely a plus.

[notjustaface]

"At least the little fish is better at getting away and hiding from predators."

He doesn't mean to sound cryptic, but as he watches the MP behind the wheel of the sedan he knows they're getting close.

"Easier to think that when the predators aren't closin' in."

[notjustaface]

He draws in an uneasy breath and looks over to his partner, giving him an affectionate shoulder.

"Hey, we'll be all right."

[notthatcrazy]

He manages a small smile despite his nervousness.

"You really think that, or are you just sayin' it to make me feel better?"

It's appreciated, either way.

[notjustaface]

"Can't be both?" He hopes it's true, and even if it isn't he doesn't want Murdock to worry.

"We haven't been caught yet."

[notthatcrazy]

He impulsively leans over to give him a quick kiss before settling back down in his seat.

"Yeah... we'll be okay."

[notjustaface]

The kiss warms him slightly and he mutters in return; "We'll be back on the couch watching When Sharks Attack 5 in no time."

He hopes. He kind of doubts, but he hopes.

"Sure we will."

It's a slim hope, but it's enough to get by on for the moment.

[notjustaface]

"Talk to me, babe. You know I worry when you get quiet."

His eyes are locked on their target, but he knows Murdock doesn't need to see his face to know he means it.
